'Barstool King'

Haggard n bent
A lifetime misspent
Get up's pretty much done gone
Grizzled n gray
Still puts it away
To defiantly grin at dawn
Whiskey's his 'Tea'
Sets his mind free
Allows it to wander and roam
A musky bar room
Stench of cheap perfume
To him, the comforts of home
You catch but a hint
In glares through a squint
Some worms are best left in a can
He don't stand for lies
Nor cheap alibis
This brutally honest man
He once rode the wind
Called it, 'His friend'
Now, he barely shoots the breeze
Stares in his glass
Mumbles, 'This too shall pass'
Then downs his sour mash squeeze
In another life
Kids and a wife
'Til that letter she'd left on the door
It started, 'Dear John'
Ended, 'Long gone'
After, 'I don't love you anymore'
He's called it quits
So there he sits
A King on his bar stool throne
Buy 'em a drink
He may nod, even wink
Better yet, just leave 'em alone
