Grandpa Cool

Old and ornery
Stubborn as a rock
Shaved head, Biker limp
A wonder he can walk
Tattoos and scars
Stories for each
You’re wrong, he’s right
On that he’ll preach
He’s ridden a scoot forty plus years
Good times, heartaches, laughter and tears
Don’t give a damn, just the shirt off his back
Finesse? Never quite developed the knack
But every year he’s Santa
At his Granddaughter’s school
Kindergartners know him as
Grandpa Cool
Gruff, grizzled
Graybeard and all
Lights up their world
Simply walking down the hall
A classroom helper three days a week
Finger painting, graham crackers, hide n seek
Curriculum vs. Biker ‘ol school
It’s computers, hi-tech and Grandpa Cool
He considers them his family
More often than not
He’s their ‘bonus’ grandpa
For some, all they’ve got
Lessons of life
Are not solely bound in text
They’re handed down
One generation to the next
The most important things we learn
Are seldom taught in school
They come from those who’ve lived and lost
Those like Grandpa Cool
