When they were five, he tugged her hair
Peculiar how some boys show they care
Never one to run and cry
She helped him earn his first black eye
At ten years old, he grabbed a spider
Then quietly placed it right beside her
There were no screams, though later at lunch
His sandwich produced an unusual crunch
Year thirteen, with fuzz on his lip
A comment about her body did slip
She said to his buddies, in a moment so choice
"How manly he sounds with that crack in his voice"
Seventeen years, with hair on his face
Built him a scoot from a basket case
Rode to her house, told her with pride
'I'd like you to have the very first ride'
Forty years later, still holding hands
A love, far beyond simple gold bands
She laughs as he tugs on their granddaughter's hair
Peculiar how some men show they care
