The Beaten Path

I've gone to blows a time or two
On good days, even won
Made choices, I'd rather forget
For me, what's done is done
Had one to many, to many times
Felt the scorn of a woman's wrath
Brother, it's just another ride
Upon the beaten path
I've cheated death, fair and square
Life's a game of chance
Placed my bet, rolled the bones
Flew by the seat of my pants
The world never added up
Or I couldn't do the math
I found answers along the way
Upon the beaten path
The road is a canvas and I, its brush
Strokes painted within each ride
Hues and shadows, a wisp of wind
A life so freely applied
A babies touch, an ocean breeze
Giving my dog a bath
Simple things I've learned to love
Upon the beaten path
